PARENTING

Parenting is one of the most rewarding jobs and definitely one of the hardest. We do the best we can and throw some prayers upward hoping God will intervene when we mess up, and maybe we even put a little chunk of money into a therapy account to undo all the things we did to mess up our kids... As our culture continues to change, we are called as Jesus followers to evaluate, assess, and pay attention to anything that might pull us away from Jesus as our first love. If you are a follower of Jesus, then this is one of the parenting strategies that you likely lean into. Parents’ jobs are to prepare kids for the world they must live in.

What should your kids do if asked to call upon a false god?

The state of California has recently passed a new ethnic studies curriculum that has an optional exercise in Appendix B that encourages kids to address Aztec gods. As followers of Jesus, this is something God warns us against participating in.

JOIN The Sex Ed Opt-Out Movement

A parents’ right to have their child excused from classroom sexual health education lessons should not be limited by a school district’s misinterpretation of the California Healthy Youth Act (CHYA).

Why do I say “misinterpretation?” Based on the fact that some school districts acknowledge the right to opt-out of CHYA, while others allow a limited opt-out, and still others have refused to provide any opt-out for at all for students.

While confusion among the school districts abounds, there is a simple solution. It’s to use a well-established student opt-out provided in California Education Code established in 2004.

California Education Code Section

51240 (a) If any part of a school's instruction in health conflicts with the religious training and beliefs of a parent or guardian of a pupil, the pupil, upon written request of the parent or guardian, shall be excused from the part of the instruction that conflicts with the religious training and beliefs.

(b) For purposes of this section, “religious training and beliefs” includes personal moral convictions.”
