Your Word of the Year: A Simple Faith Habit for a New Beginning

christian encouragement faith habits spiritual growth Jan 05, 2026

Happy New Year!

Every January, I ask God for one simple word — a word that will shape my prayers, stretch my faith, and steady my steps for the year ahead. This year, He didn’t hesitate. He whispered it quickly and clearly:

FAITHFUL.

Not flashy. Not complicated. Just... faithful.

God is calling me to be faithful to whatever He puts in front of me this year — not the whole mountain, not the distant dreams, not the worries I tend to borrow from tomorrow. Just the next obedience. The next yes. The next act of love, courage, or trust.

Faithful right here. Faithful right now.

Maybe you already have your word for the year. Maybe one is tugging at you. Or maybe you’re still listening for it — totally okay. Your word doesn’t have to be perfect or profound. It just has to be true. Something God can use to anchor you.

Here’s the Scripture guiding me:

“Your faithfulness continues through all generations.” — Psalm 119:90

If He is faithful, then I can be faithful.

Try This Faith Habit

Choose one physical place you go every single day — your bathroom mirror, your kitchen sink, your steering wheel, your laptop screen — and put your word of the year there. A sticky note. A phone wallpaper. A little chalkboard. A bracelet. Something you’ll see again and again.

Every time your eyes land on that spot, let it anchor you back to your word.

Live this word. Practice this word. Return to this word.

Your word of the year isn’t a resolution. It’s an orientation — a way of turning your heart toward God all year long.
