Mittens, Mugs, and Jesus: The God Who Holds You
Jan 19, 2026
I grew up in Michigan, where mittens were basically a survival tool. You couldn’t leave the house without them — unless you wanted to lose feeling in your fingers before the garage door even closed.
But in Southern California? Mittens are more... optional. Cute. Decorative. A fashion choice, not a survival necessity.
Still, every January, mittens make me think of the way God holds us.
And then there’s the mug — the steaming cup of something warm on a winter morning. It’s cozy. Comforting. Grounding. The kind of small joy that settles your soul before the day takes off running.
Together, mittens and mugs point us to Jesus!
God holds you with strength and warms you with His presence — even in the cold stretches of life.
The God who upholds you is not distant.
He’s close.
He’s steady.
He’s stronger than the cold seasons and gentler than the warmth of your favorite mug.
You don’t hold your life together alone — He’s holding it with you.
Faith Habit of the Week: The Warm Grip
Pick one thing you physically hold every day — your steering wheel, your coffee mug, your phone — and let it remind you:
“God is holding me today.”
A small, daily cue.
A physical reminder of spiritual truth.
A habit of noticing the God who never lets go.
Wherever January finds you — freezing, sweating, or somewhere in between — let mittens and mugs remind you:
You are held.
And you are warmed by a God who doesn’t disappear when life gets cold.
