Epic Pizza Wait, Haircuts, and Jesus

christian encouragement faith habits Aug 04, 2026

Every family has that restaurant. You know the one. The food is incredible. The salad? Amazing. The cheesy breadsticks? Worth every carb. The pizza? Absolutely legendary.

Our family has a little independently owned pizza shop that checks every one of those boxes. We love everything about it.

Apparently...So does everyone else. Recently, my sister, her family, and my mom decided to have dinner there. It was especially packed and slow. They prepared for a wait. Eventually, the salad arrived. The cheesy breadsticks arrived. Everyone was happy.

Then they waited for the pizza.

And waited.

And waited.

An hour passed.

Then another.

By the time the pizza finally landed on their table, they had been waiting for over two hours!

Two hours! I have to be honest. I'm not sure I would have made it. At some point I probably would have started calculating how long it would take to drive home and make a peanut butter sandwich.

They, however, stayed.

Finally, after what probably felt like the longest pizza wait in recorded history, their food arrived.

As they finished dinner, they noticed the table next to them. They were still waiting. No pizza. No dinner. Just hope.

That's when my brother-in-law did something wonderfully unexpected. He walked over and offered them their leftover pizza. Without hesitation, they smiled and accepted it.

Can you imagine?

After waiting two hours, someone hands you free pizza. That probably tasted like the greatest slice they'd ever eaten.

Now here's where the story gets even better. A few days later, my mom was getting her haircut.

Another customer walked in. She looked at my mom for a moment and suddenly said,

"Wait...You're the lady who shared your pizza!"

Out of all the things my mom has probably done that week...That's what she was remembered for.

Not because she gave away something extravagant. Not because she did something dramatic. Just because she shared a few slices of pizza.

It reminded me how often the smallest acts of kindness become the biggest memories in someone else's story.

We rarely know what people are carrying. Sometimes they're hungry. Sometimes they're discouraged. Sometimes they're simply waiting.

A simple act of generosity has a way of reminding people that they're seen.

Most of us won't have the opportunity to do something headline-worthy today. But we will have dozens of opportunities to do something kind. Offer the last slice. Hold the door. Let someone merge. Pay attention. Share what you have.

The world doesn't just need more grand gestures. It needs more people who notice. Because sometimes the brightest light shines through the simplest act.

This Week’s Faith Habit

The Quiet Give

This week, quietly give something away.

It might be your place in line, your favorite snack, the better seat, the parking spot, or even the last piece of dessert.

Don't announce it.

Don't explain it.

Simply choose to put someone else first and let that quiet act of generosity point your heart toward Jesus.

And if you're ever remembered at the hair salon as "the lady who shared the pizza"... you're probably doing something right.
